Scots company feeds free power to EVs 18 | 05 | 2018

A SCOTS COMPANY Is offering local residents free charging for their electric vehicles (EV). Aberdeenshire food ingredients manufacturer, Macphie, has installed two charging points at its Glenbervie site to supply EV charging facilities for employees, visitors and members of the local community.

The move is part of Macphie’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainability. All mainstream EVs can be charged at the points. (Related: Scottish Natural Heritage goes electric)

“The long term sustainability of the environment is a priority for our business,” chairman Alastair Macphie (pictured) said. “We are always looking for ways to minimise the impact we have on the environment.

“This is an ideal way to promote the move away from fossil fuel. As electric vehicle technology improves, the available ranges increase and prices come down. (Related: Roadtest — Renault ZOE Dynamique R90 Z.E 40)

“Our forklift truck fleet moved entirely to electric a few years ago, and we are now looking at the potential for other site vehicles.

“Supporting the local community is also very important to us and we look forward to welcoming our neighbours — and those from further afield — to the charge points here at Macphie.”

Macphie received funding from Transport Scotland, through a programme managed by the Energy Saving Trust.

Vehicle users can recharge their vehicle for free with a ChargePlace swipe card or by downloading a smartphone app available on the ChargePlace Scotland website.

“We are delighted to provide funding for publicly accessible charging facilities at Macphie of plug-in vehicles,” Matthew Eastwood, head of Transport in Scotland at Energy Saving Trust, said.

“Use of these vehicles has been increasing year on year and we have no doubt this trend will continue due to the substantial fuel cost savings that can be achieved.

“Facilities like these will help strengthen the national network of charging points and are crucial in supporting the growing number of electronic vehicles in Scotland.”

Macphie — the UK’s leading, independent food ingredients manufacturer — has been producing premium quality food ingredients and solutions for nearly 90 years. The company employs more than 300 workers across three sites; its headquarters in Glenbervie in Aberdeenshire, its facility in Tannochside in North Lanarkshire, and its Midlands Centre of Excellence outside Coventry.
