Webber praises Vettelposted in F116 | 11 | 2010

AUSSIE MARK WEBBER has risen above his deep disappointment at missing out on the Formula One World Championship by paying tribute to his rival and team-mate Sebastian Vettel.

Both Red Bull team-mate were locked in an, at times acrimonious, tooth and nail battle for the championship right to the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi. Webber lost out when he struggled to finish eighth, while Vettel won the race and clinched the title.

Now, despite what may have been said throughout the season, Webber has praised Vettel's performance.

"I've got to take my hat off to Sebastian because he's done a good job this year," Webber (pictured) said. "We've had our ups and downs, but we've pushed each other and it's always rewarding to get out of bed to do that.

"It's amazing to think the only time he led the championship was after the last race, but that's the only time it matters. Well done to him.

"Of course I'm very disappointed by what happened on Sunday evening, I aimed for the biggest target in motorsport and it didn't work out. I'm reminded of that great adage; what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Well, I'm still alive and I'm sure I'll bounce back from this season a better driver.

"Right now though, I need a good break. The gas has been wide open since the third week in January and it's been a long season. There's been a lot of travel, a lot of emotion and a lot of effort. It's time for some time out."
