ABERDEEN-BASED John Clark Motor Group is to invest around £500,000, and create 20 jobs, in a new Skoda dealership in Dundee. The expansion comes after the group completed the purchase of the premises and equipment of Dundee-based Fairweather Motors from the receiver.

Having been awarded the Skoda franchise, which had previously been run by Fairweather Motors, JCMG believes it can generate sales of 400 new and used vehicles annually and deliver an annual turnover of £8 million for its new Dundee dealership.

The company, which already operates a Skoda franchise dealership in Aberdeen, plans to open its new Specialist Cars Skoda dealership on the Kingsway East site on September 1. The latest development also brings the group’s investment in premises for its Dundee businesses to more than £6m over the past five years.

“We are delighted to be investing in this new businesses and look forward to bringing Skoda back into Dundee," John Clark, chairman and managing director, said. "We have a strong track record with Skoda through our established Specialist Cars Skoda dealership in Aberdeen and we aim to build on this expertise to extend our reputation for quality service and customer care with the new Specialist Cars Skoda in Dundee.

“I am particularly pleased this new businesses will build on the long relationship the John Clark Motor Group has enjoyed with Dundee. We opened our first dealership in the city, John Clark BMW, in 1986 and currently operate three businesses in the city.”

The John Clark Motor Group is Scotland’s fourth largest motor trade group and within the top 30 in the UK, with an annual turnover of £260m and 637 employees.
