THE NEW Ford Focus arrives in Scottish dealerships early next year and the company has just confirmed the engine line-up for the new model. The range will include a new turbocharged 1.6-litre Ecoboost petrol unit, available in 148bhp and 178bhp guises.

In its larger guise, the 178bhp will accelerate from standstill to 62mph in 7.9secs and return an encouraging 47mpg with 139g/km CO2 emissions. As expected, the normally aspirated 1.6-litre Duratec petrol engine, in 104bhp and 123bhp forms, continues in the new range.

Lovers of diesel engines will be pleased to hear the new Focus range will include updated 1.6-litre units, with 94bhp and 113bhp, and a re-engineered 2.0-litre powerplant. The 2.0 will be available with 113bhp, 138bhp or 161bhp outputs.

And as the move towards less emissions continues to roll across the industry, stop-start is being phased into the range, too; from launch all 1.6-litre models, petrol or diesel, will have the system as standard.

The new ST will be powered by a 247bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ecoboost engine which also offers a 20% improvement in economy and emissions over the outgoing ST.

The new range will not include a three-door or coupé-convertible version.
