Scots biker caught doing 127mph 29 | 04 | 2011

A MOTORCYCLIST has been clocked travelling at 127mph — more than double the speed limit — on a rural B-road. The 43-year-old's actions were branded "simply madness" by the head of the road safety unit at Grampian Police.

A spokesman for the force said the motorcyclist had been caught speeding during a road safety operation on the B9077 South Deeside Road, near Nether Balfour, Aberdeenshire.

"Travelling at more than double the speed limit on a public road is simply madness," Leslie Harrold, the force's road safety manager, said. "If a vehicle had pulled out in front of this rider, or if a wild animal had emerged into his path, he would almost certainly have been killed.

"At that speed he would have needed the length of approximately two football pitches to slow down and stop."
