Nissan poised for world domination 02 | 02 | 2011

LOVE IT or hate it — and we at Scotcars generally don't fall in the former category — the Nissan Leaf could be poised to add the World Car of the Year award to its European Car of the Year award after it was named in the shortlist for the prize.

While there's no place for any VW model — the German brand has won the award in the last two years with the Golf and Polo — the list does include the Porsche Cayenne, Jaguar XJ, Mercedes SLS, BMW’s 5-series and X3, Volvo S60/V60, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Audi’s A1 and A8.

And while the Leaf — which took the European award rather controversially — gets the nod, the Chevrolet Volt, a recent winner of the North American Car of the Year award, isn't listed.

The three finalists will be announced at next month’s Geneva motor show and the overall winner will be revealed at the New York motor show on April 21.
