Porsche's electric Boxster on the road 16 | 02 | 2011

PORSCHE HAS begun official trials of its three electric Boxsters in Germany. The cars, described as “mobile laboratories”, are each powered by a 29kWh battery pack and a pair of electric motors with a combined power output of 241bhp.

While Porsche has been at pains to stress it is not revealing performance figures for the electric sportsters, it's understood they are comparable to a Boxster S; that would mean a top speed of 170mph and a sprint from standstill to 62mph of just 5.3secs!

the company also stresses it has no firm production plans for the Boxster E. Instead it will harvest the information from the trials and use it in the development of its future models.
