Vauxhall confirms Astra cabrio 25 | 02 | 2011

VAUXHALL IS likely to return to a soft-top when it re-introduces an Astra Convertible in 2013; the move will mark a shift away from the retractable hard-top which appeared first in the TwinTop.

The news comes just days after VW confirmed it will launch a new Golf cabrio fitted with a fabric roof. VW also has no plans to replace the Eos which, like the TwinTop, uses a steel folding roof.

The new Vauxhall cabrio — which will share its Delta platform with the rest of the Astra range — will be built in Poland alongside other Astra models at the firm’s Gliwice plant.

“The new Convertible will be a great addition to our product lineup,” Opel/Vauxhall CEO Nick Reilly explained. “It follows the long-standing tradition of highly emotional and legendary Opel/Vauxhall Cabrios that provided important halo effects on our brand.”
