Scots to open order books for new CX-5 09 | 06 | 2011

MAZDA'S SCOTTISH dealerships will open their order books for the new CX-5 crossover in September; the first customers getting their cars in March next year. The CX-5, which will be the first new-generation Mazda to enter the European market with its new ultra-efficient SkyActiv technology, will go head-to-head with the VW Tiguan and Ford Kuga.

The CX-5, which will be based on the Minagi concept (pictured), will make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 13. It's expected prices will start around £21,000, and Mazda will offer to refund deposits to customers who aren't completely satisfied after a test drive.
The manual 2.2-litre diesel version of the SkyActiv engine will emit less than 120g/km of CO2 and average around 65mpg, making it one of the most efficient cars in its class. The 2.0-litre petrol version will top 47mpg and emit less than 140g/km of CO2.
"We've never made special eco versions of our cars; we don't believe in it," Mazda Motors UK managing director Jeremy Thomson said. "Every CX-5 customer will get our Skyactiv drivetrains as standard, in much in the same way as every BMW customer gets Efficient Dynamics fuel-saving modifications."
