Wind-blown Leaf hits the Shetlands 02 | 06 | 2011

THE FIRST NISSAN LEAF all-electric car which will be used on the Shetland Isles has been picked up by its new owner. The car, sold by Edinburgh-based Alex F Noble Nissan, was collected at Aberdeen harbour by new owner Jim Dickson who will charge the car with sustainable electricity generated by a 2.5kw wind turbine.

“The purchase of our Leaf is another stage in trying to reduce our household carbon footprint," Dickson (pictured with his car at Aberdeen harbour) said before driving the Leaf on to the ferry for the 12-hour journey to Lerwick. “It is also to combat the relentless rise in transport costs — we pay £1.52 per litre for diesel in Shetland.”

Alex F Noble Nissan EV relationship manager, Jim Rowan said: “Having supplied Leafs to companies and private individuals across the Scottish mainland, it’s great to see one of our cars making the long journey up to the Shetland Isles.

“Hopefully Mr Dickson will be an ambassador for the benefits of electric vehicles, and I know he’s already enjoying the savings of fuelling his car entirely with renewable energy.”
