First video glimpse of new BMW M5 07 | 03 | 2011

BMW HAS given us our first glimpse of the all-new M5, six months before its scheduled to make its first appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The video, posted on BMW's YouTube channel, shows the car — still wearing camouflage — testing in Scandinavia.

The footage (from where the screen-grab image above was taken, hence the lack of pin-sharp quality we're used to providing on Scotcars) also includes brief comments from BMW M boss Kay Segler who describes the newcomer as “a bold business car that at the push of a button turns into a sports car”.

The new 'F10M' M5 ditches the previous naturally aspirated 500bhp V10 and replaces it with a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 which is expected to produce around 570bhp. The new powerplant, thanks to its pair of turbochargers, will also deliver considerably more torque.

In a bid to improve fuel economy and CO2 emissions, the new M5 will feature stop-start, plus it's expected to get a dual-clutch transmission. It's expected the new car will be available from BMW's Scottish dealership network before the end of this year.
