Scots Merc dealer drops RBS 23 | 03 | 2011

SCOTLAND'S LARGEST Mercedes-Benz dealership group, Grangemouth-based John R Weir, has become the latest Scottish business to ditch Royal Bank of Scotland.

The motor group — which employs 350 people and operates dealerships in Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness, as well as Grangemouth — has switched to Barclays Corporate.

“When we made the decision to move from RBS we spoke to a number of banks," owner John Weir, whose company returned to profit last year with earnings of £134,000 on turnover of £83.4m, explained.

"We were impressed with the team from Barclays from our very first meeting with them. They showed an interest in, and knowledge of, our sector that other banks did not match.”

Mr Weir, who criticised the lack of flexibility at RBS in recent times, has instructed Barclays Corporate to handle corporate banking, bank debt and working capital for John R Weir.
