Porsche reveals diesel Panamera 03 | 05 | 2011

SCOTS PORSCHE dealers are licking their lips in anticipation of taking delivery of the new Panamera diesel; it has a range of almost 750 miles.

De to go on sale in August, the diesel Panamera features a Porsche-tuned VW Group 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine which produces 247bhp and peak torque of 406lb ft between 1750rpm and 2750rpm.

With more power than the 3.0-litre Cayenne diesel, the Panamera will travel from standstill to 62mph in 6.8sec and has a maximum speed of 150mph. Porsche claims CO2 emissions of 172g/km with a combined fuel economy of 43.5mp; that means — theoretically — you can cover 745 miles on a single fill of the car's 80-litre fuel tank.

Prices for the Panamera diesel will start at £62,134, slightly more than Jaguar’s 3.0-litre diesel XJ, and include a free session at Porsche’s driving experience at Silverstone.

The oilburning Panamera comes with stop-start comes as standard and the engine is mated to an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission driving the rear wheels.

The only external hint of diesel power are two titchy ‘diesel’ badges on the front doors. Other than that the car comes with the usual host of Porsche goodies, including bi-xenon headlights, touch-screen satellite navigation, tyre pressure monitoring, Porsche’s Active Suspension Management, plus front and rear park assist.
