PEUGEOT’S ALL-NEW 208 will cost from £16,250 when it goes on-sale at Scottish dealerships. That makes it more expensive than rivals, the Vauxhall Corsa and Renault Clio. Buyers get the choice of four trim levels — Active, Allure, GT Line and GT — across the 208 range, plus three petrol engines, one diesel or the fully electric powerplant.
The entry-level Active spec, which starts at £16,250, gets LED daytime running lights, Active Safety Brake with pedestrian detection, electric and heated door mirrors, plus alloy wheels (steel wheels for the e-208) all as standard.
Next-up is the Allure model, which starts at £18,850. This adds ‘claw effect’ full LED rear-lights, 3D i-Cockpit with a configurable 3D head-up instrument panel plus leather-effect seat trim. In the e-208, Allure (priced from £26,250) brings automatic air conditioning and pre-heating functionality. (Related: Peugeot unveils all-electric e-208)
The GT Line (£20,070) — which tops-out the range in the non-electric models — adds further spec, including full LED headlights, a reversing camera, eight-colour ambient interior lighting, 17-inch wheels, plus front and rear parking sensors. The e-208 GT Line will set you back £28,100.
The most expensive trim for the all-electric version is the GT. Not available in either petrol or diesel forms, the GT features a 3D i-Cockpit with a larger 10-inch touchscreen, adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go Alcantara trim, automated parking assistance and heated front seats. Prices start at £29,650.
As for engines, the entry-level petrol model is the 74bhp three-cylinder 1.2-litre in the PureTech 75. Power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual ‘box.
Power increases to 99bhp in the turbocharged PureTech 100, which also gets a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. An eight-speed automatic, with paddle shifters mounted on the back of the steering wheel, is available as an option. The most powerful petrol is the 128bhp PureTech 130, which gets the eight-speed auto ‘box as standard.
Diesel-lovers can get the 99bhp, 1.5-litre four-cylinder BlueHDi, which is mated solely to a six-speed manual. Peugeot has yet to confirm performance, fuel economy and CO2 figures.
But it’s the all-electric e-208, which is available from launch, which will generate most attention. With the front axle powered by a 134bhp electric motor, it uses the the e-CMP variant of the new CMP platform and is capable of 211 miles on a single charge.
