VAUXHALL HAS UNVEILED its updated Insignia, which is on-sale now and is scheduled to enter UK showrooms in the summer. Prices start at £23,120 for the entry-level, maxing out at £38,850 for the range-topping GSi AWD. (Related: Electric Corsa-e to start at £26,490)

Five trim levels will be available — SE Nav, SRi Nav, SRi VX-Line Nav, Ultimate Nav and GSi — and buyers will have the choice of both petrol and diesel engines. (Related: Vauxhall Corsa-e gets 205-mile range)

There’s the entry-level 143bhp 1.4-litre turbo petrol, plus a 2.0-litre turbo petrol with two states of tune, 198 and 227bhp; the latter is reserved for the GSI. The two diesels are a 121bhp 1.5 and 172bhp 2.0-litre. Buyers also get the choice of a six-speed manual, CVT or an  eight or nine-speed automatic gearbox. Phew!

The updated Insignia also includes a significant improvement in safety equipment. Blind spot monitoring, a couple of extra airbags and a forward collision alert system are all included. The range also includes a rear-view camera and rear cross-traffic alert, which warns the driver of approaching vehicles and pedestrians when reversing out of bay spaces.
