BBR Super 225 package for Mazda MX-5 26 | 06 | 2020

MAZDA TUNING SPECIALISTS, BBR, has launched a new tuning kit for the third-generation MX-5. The Super 225 package will, perhaps not surprisingly, increase the car’s output to 224bhp (225PS). Prices start at £3495 (all prices exclude VAT) for a DIY package option, or £4295 for a drive-in, drive-out installation at BBR’s Brackley HQ. (Related: Limited edition Mazda MX-5 R-Sport)

Compatible with all third-generation 2.0-litre Mazda MX-5 models, BBR says the upgrade improves engine power by 67bhp and 49Nm of torque, taking maximum output to 224bhp and 236Nm.

Relying on good old-fashioned flow dynamics rather than turbocharging to improve performance, the BBR system adds a less restrictive four-into-one exhaust manifold, a fresh pair of exhaust camshafts and a new intake manifold with 45mm individual throttle bodies. The changes also include a new fuel rail, plus a set of new injectors and a fresh map for the car’s ECU to manage the upgrades. A improved foam air filter is available as an option for an extra £65. (Related: Mazda3 named Scottish Car of the Year)

The Brackley company will also sell you just the intake manifold for £1795 (ex VAT). Owners of the firm’s old Super 200 package can upgrade to the Super 225 model for £2495. Buyers opting for the full package also get a couple of cosmetic upgrades, including a pair of 3.5-inch diameter BBR-branded tailpipes and a set of badges for the MX-5’s front wings and boot lid. And if you hurry, BBR is offering a 10% discount on any ITB DIY purchases placed before July 31, 2020. ITB packages are also under development for earlier and later MX-5 /Miata models, with more details to follow soon.
