Scot Noble lifts Radical title 28 | 10 | 2013

SCOT COLIN NOBLE Jnr (pictured) made sure it wasn’t just Sebastian Vettel that was winning a motor racing championship last weekend.

Two wins in the final two races of the season at the Snetterton 300 circuit in Norfolk ensured 17-year-old Colin Noble Jnr from Midlothian, won the UK championship of the inaugural Radical SR1 Cup.

Colin’s win means it’s the second year in a row a member of the Noble family has secured a Radical title, with his father, Colin Noble Snr, the reigning 2012 Dunlop Radical UK Cup champion.

Noble Jnr dominated this year’s championship securing an impressive seven wins out of eight with one second place: a result-per-race record better even than Vettel.

The young Scot also achieved six pole positions and seven fastest laps across the four race meetings held at Brands Hatch in Kent, Oulton Park in Cheshire, Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire and ultimately, at Snetterton.

Noble Jnr amassed 168 points out of a possible 176 over the course of the season setting the bar high for others to follow next season, including fellow competitor, Sir Chris Hoy, who is also driving in the SR1 championship.

"I’m obviously delighted to have won the championship and to be bringing the trophy back home to Midlothian," Noble Jnr said. "We’ve been very strong throughout the season and both the car and the support team have been absolutely magnificent."

Colin’s father, Colin Noble Snr, who is also a director of Alex F Noble Nissan, the Midlothian based car dealership which is the main sponsor of Colin’s SR1 car, said: “I’m really proud of the effort Colin has put in throughout the season and he thoroughly deserves to have won the championship.

"Since he was a small boy, he’s always wanted to race and if he’s prepared to continue working hard, I believe he has the potential to join the ranks of Scotland’s great racing drivers”.

As for next season, Noble Jnr has already had approaches to join other racing teams and is currently considering the options.
