Knockhill invests £100k in new cars 15 | 12 | 2015

SCOTLAND'S NATIONAL MOTORSPORT Centre at Knockhill has invested more than £100,000 in new cars as it bids to accelerate ahead of other circuits in the UK.

The Fife race circuit has taken delivery of a new fleet of 14 Audi-powered single-seat Formula race cars. The move coincides with a new partnership with Honda which sees five new Civic Type R hot hatch models, plus a CR-V and HR-V join the circuit's fleet.

All the new vehicles will be used from next February for public and corporate driving experiences, both on the 1.3-mile circuit, and offtrack.

Knockhill's new partnership with Honda builds on the success of double British Touring Car Champion Gordon Shedden.

The 33-year-old from Dalgety Bay, and who is Knockhill's business development manager, powered his Type R to his second BTCC title this year. Shedden will bid to win his third championship with the Japanese manufacturer in 2016.

Built at Honda's production facility in Swindon, the road-going version of the Type R generates 306bhp, starts at £29,995, hits 62mph from standstill in 5.7secs and tops out at 167mph.

"In 31 years of running driving experiences at Knockhill, we will never have had a better fleet of cars for our customers," Stuart Gray, Knockhill event director said today.

"With its race pedigree in the BTCC and around the world, the Honda Type R models will be dynamite for the customers to drive.

"The race cars too are simply awesome. They look, sound, and handle like no other single seater we have had as part of our on-track fleet.

"I have no doubt that our cars, when they hit the track in February, will be the equivalent, or indeed better, than those found at any other circuit in the UK."
