Ecurie Ecosse links with Omologato 30 | 08 | 2016

ECURIE ECOSSE, ONE of the most iconic names in British motorsport, has partnered with UK company Omologato to produce a limited edition watch. The agreement coincides with the 60th anniversary of the team winning the 1956 Le Mans 24-Hours with their famous Jaguar D-Type.

The Edinburgh-based racing team’s livery has appeared on some of the most famous cars in the history of motorsport, and is now on the official Omologato Écurie Ecosse Chronograph.

The latest incarnation of the team, Black Bull Ecurie Ecosse, competes in the British GT Championship with a McLaren 650S GT3 and McLaren 570S GT4.

The Écurie Ecosse team was founded by F1 driver turned businessman David Murray in 1951, and enjoyed fantastic success despite operating on a modest budget.

Despite its relatively humble beginnings, the team has seen some of the most famous drivers in the history of motorsport pass through its ranks. The likes of Jackie Stewart, Jim Clark and double Le Mans champion Ron Flockhart all drove for Écurie Ecosse throughout the years.

As well as the cars and drivers, the iconic double-deck Écurie Ecosse Car Transporter held a special place in fans’ hearts, and was sold in 2013 for a world-record £1.8m.

The Écurie Ecosse name has made headlines recently thanks to the $22m sale at auction in Monterey, California, of the famous Jaguar D-Type that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1956.

The sale makes it the most expensive British car ever, and now fans can own a small piece of the famous name thanks to Omologato’s latest creation.

The limited edition timepiece pays homage to the iconic Écurie Ecosse look, and offers a level of quality and design that sets it apart.

It is available in two colour schemes – the two colours of the Scottish Saltire that is at the heart of the Écurie Ecosse team. The faces are available in sunray metallic blue, or white with blue details. The blue is offered with white numbers, while the white face comes with a blue number 12, and blue edged notches around the face.

On both versions, the watch features subtle styling highlights. A small Écurie Ecosse shield featuring the Scottish Saltire is positioned just above the Omologato logo and the centre of the dial. The two are complemented by the 22mm strap, which is made from a high-grade quality of Italian leather.

The blue is offered with a sophisticated black strap, while the white version is given a twist of colour thanks to its tan leather finish.

The Écurie Ecosse Chronograph features a high quality Swiss Quartz movement for the first time in an Omologato, offering further smoothness of operation and a quality of manufacturing. This brings a desirable level of precision, reliability and accuracy that is associated with the very best in watch manufacturing.

Omologato is offering the Écurie Ecosse Chronograph in strictly limited numbers, with only 200 being made. The 200 owners will receive a hand signed booklet certificate confirming the number bought and get a watch that is truly special, as the case is bespoke for the Écurie Ecosse.

The 43mm case is made from a high grade of surgical grade stainless steel and finished with a flat sapphire finish glass. Each watch is packed in a specially made lacquered piano wood box.

“Écurie Ecosse came out of nowhere when it first launched in the 1950s, taking on bigger, more established teams with much larger budgets and upsetting the odds to win some of the most famous races in the world,” Omologato founder Shami Kalra said.

“Creating the Écurie Ecosse Chronograph means a lot to me personally. I’ve always been a fan of the team, and love the cars’ understated and classy look. I owned a toy version of the Transporter when I was a child and it is an honour to be working with the team today.”

Alasdair McCaig, Director of Écurie Ecosse, said: “It is a pleasure to be working with an up-and-coming brand like Omologato, and we are delighted with the start of this partnership.

“Omologato’s passion for motorsport is clear, and the Écurie Ecosse Chronograph is a classic timepiece that pays tribute to the team’s history and present.”

The Écurie Ecosse Chronograph is strictly limited to 200 examples, and is priced at £599. Pre-orders can be placed on the Omologato website, with deliveries due in mid November.
