Honda teases NeuV concept  08 | 12 | 2016

HONDA HAS TEASED us with a first image of its futuristic “commuter car”,  the NeuV concept. The model is set to make its first public appearance at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January. (Related: Shedden wins third BTCC ttle with Honda)

Clearly a radical concept, rather than anything remotely close to a full production car, the NeuV stands out with its boxy short wheelbase and tall roof.

It also has a large translucent canopy, and the doors, which are marked out by the angular shards of silver metal, run from wheel to wheel, opening the pod right up.

The impressive styling is completed by angular black and silver wheels housed in massively flared wheel arches,

Not only will NeuV showcase Honda’s autonomous abilities, but the concept also highlights the Japanese car giant’s take on an electric city car.

Rather scarily — and very Space Odyssey-like  — the star of the NeuV is the on-board artificial intelligence software. The so-called ‘emotion engine’ enables machines to artificially generate their own emotions. According to Honda, it’ll add new depth to how drivers and passengers interact with cars.

Quite whether this means the NeuV will be able to detect human emotions and respond to them, we’ll have to wait until the car is unveiled on January 5.
