Seat SUV to be named Ateca 02 | 02 | 2016

SEAT'S LONG-AWAITED first SUV will be badged Ateca. The model, which will be unveiled at ext month's Geneva Motor Show, is based on the Leon hatchback and will go on-sale in Scotland later this year.

The Ateca, which will be targeted at the Nissan Qashqai, is part of a three-model family planned by the Spanish car maker, and over the past few months the company has also registered additional names, including Teqta, Conqera, Teroqa, Formentera.

The Ateca and Formentera names follow Seat’s tradition of naming its cars after locations in Spain.

It's expected Seat will definitely underplay the SUV's offroad abilities in the car's design, preferring to focus on its road-going ability and nature.

The reserved lines will be more akin to those of the current Leon, as identified in the 20v20 concept seen at last year’s Geneva show.

Power is expected to come from the engines in the current Leon line-up, with the likelihood of a hot Cupra version joint the line-up.
