Kia reveals Telluride concept SUV 12 | 01 | 2016

KIA HAS UNVEILED its Telluride four-wheel-drive hybrid concept SUV at the Detroit Motor Show. The model gives a glimpse into the future of Kia’s design and technology, and hints that the Korean manufacturer is poised for an excursion into the large SUV market (see more photographs of the new Kia Telluride).

Sitting on 22in five-spoke wheels, the Telluride is 1800mm tall, 2029mm wide and 5001mm long: so it's not small. It also boasts a muscular look which has been penned by Kia’s Design Centre America.

Practicality has been key to the design, with the rear doors swinging open a full 90 degrees in opposing directions, plus there are three rows of seats inside.

The designers have also ensured the middle seats can fold down almost flat, and there’s a new touch-sensitive infotainment system with wireless charging, which previews what’s to come in forthcoming Kias.

The four-wheel-drive Telluride is powered by a 270bhp direct injection 3.5-litre V6, mated to a 130bhp electric motor. Kia says the car will return 36mpg (30mpg US).

At the moment, Kia says there are no plans to put the concept into production, but most onlookers believe that as the Telluride already looks so complete, it won't be long until something similar enters in the US market.
