New Civic to get turbo engines 11 | 01 | 2016

HONDA WILL LAUNCH an all-new Swindon-built five-door Civic at the end of this year. And the newcomer is expected to get 1.0 and 1.5 turbo petrol engines. A 1.6 diesel will also be included in the range.

The 1.5-litre petrol turbo has already appeared in the US Civic, where the launch models were tuned for 173bhp. However, it's also expected the engine will be available in Europe in lesser-powered versions.

And while the current 1.6-litre diesel engine will also be fitted to the new Civic, the new car will also get new 127bhp, 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. It's understood the engine will be rated at 99g/km CO2.

The new 2017 Civic will mark an end to the current layout which sees the fuel tank mounted under the front seats, allowing for a deep rear luggage space.

Honda has already given us a clue as to how the new Civic will look when it unveiled a coupé concept at the New York motor show last autumn.

The new Civic will be built solely at the Japanese manufacturer's plant — which is poised to receive a £200 million investment — in Swindon. The current production of the CR-V will switch from Swindon to Canada.
