Audi reveals new SQ7 04 | 03 | 2016

AUDI HAS REVEALED its new SQ7 SUV, which will go on-sale in Scotland at the end of the year with prices expected to start from around £70,000. The news comes just days after Audi unveiled its new Q2 in Geneva.

The hi-tech SQ7 showcases new engine, chassis and electric technology, and is the first production car to receive an electric powered compressor to boost the performance of its engine, a new 429bhp 4.0-litre V8 diesel.

The SQ7 TDI is the first Q7 model to receive the “S” treatment, and heading the list of developments brought to the car is an all-new 3956cc diesel engine.

The engine — which delivers 429bhp and 663lb/ft of torque, and will also be fitted to the new A8 — is fitted with a new common rail injection system that generates up to 2500bar of injection pressure. In addition, it has Audi’s patented valve lift system, the first time it's been applied to one of Audi's diesel engines.

According to Audi, the SQ7 — which is available with a five or seven seat interior layout — hits 62mph from standstill in 4.8sec, which is 1.3sec faster than the most powerful of existing Q7 models, the 328bhp supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine powered 3.0TFSI.

Maximum speed has been restricted to 155mph. At the pumps, the SQ7 will return 38.2mpg, and emit 194g/km of CO2.

The SQ7 gets 20in alloys, with 285/45 profile tyres, as standard, though it can be fitted with wheels up to 22in in diameter. The options list also includes a brake package which fits the same ceramic-carbon brake discs offered on the second-generation R8.

Externally, the SQ7 TDI  is instantly recognisable from other second-generation Q7 models by a number of subtle design revisions, including uniquely styled bumpers, a new grille insert,  aluminium housings for the door mirrors and four rectangular tailpipes, and SQ7 badging.
