Mercedes reveals E43 4Matic 11 | 03 | 2016

MERCEDES-BENZ HAS REVEALED its new AMG twin-turbocharged V6-powered E43 4Matic saloon ahead of its debut at next week's New York Motor Show. The model, which is the first of two planned AMG variants of the new fifth-generation E-Class, will enter Scottish showrooms in September.

Powered by a reworked version of the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 as found in the C63, the four-door E43 delivers 395bhp and is capable of 0-62mph in just 4.6 seconds with top speed limited to 155mph.

Fitted with a rear-bias four-wheel drive system, a nine-speed automatic gearbox with shorter shift timings to improve efficiency and air body control air suspension as standard, the E43 has also been given a more aggressive look, with chrome exhaust tailpipes and new 19in AMG alloys.

Inside there's front sport seats which get the same red and black decorative stitching which highlights the sumptuous cabin. There's also red seat belts, new pedals and a sports steering wheel with a new AMG instrument cluster.

The Mercedes-AMG E43 4Matic also benefits from a new, dedicated sports suspension system that works by Air Body Control; plus there  are three modes of damping settings — modes, comfort, sport and sport plus.

An estate version of the E43 is set to follow, and while Mercedes has yet to confirm pricing for the new saloon it's likely to cost more than £50,000.
