Alfa launches facelifted Mito 13 | 09 | 2016

ALFA ROMEO HAS updated its Mito supermini — now the oldest car in the Italian marque’s line-up — and the latest version is already on-sale at Scottish dealerships, with prices starting at £12,960.

The new, refreshed look includes revised rear bumpers and new alloy wheel designs, plus a new grille.

Alfa has also updated the specs of the new Mito, and as a result some trim levels on the car now match those of the Giulietta and Giulia. The entry-level Mito is simply the ‘Mito’, followed by Mito Super, Speciale and Veloce.

The entry-level car now gets a driving mode selector and a 5.0in touchscreen infotainment display with Bluetooth and DAB radio as standard.

The Veloce replaces the previous range-topping Quadrifoglio Verde trim. This decision has created a space at the top end of the range for the possibility of an Audi S1-rivalling Mito Quadrifoglio, and continues the Italian company’s push towards its performance-oriented Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio models.

Under the bonnet, there’s an update to the 1.3-litre JTDM-2 diesel engine, resulting in improved performance and lower CO2 emissions; Alfa claims 94bhp and 89g/km for the engine.

At the other end of the scale, the hot Mito — the 168bhp, £20,500 Veloce 1.4 Multiair — scampers to 62mph from standstill in 7.3sec, and carries on to 136mph; that’s just  0.4sec and 3mph slower than a Ford Fiesta ST. Worth mentioning though, the baby Alfa is £2600 more expensive than the Ford.

The new Mito range starts at £12,960, with the appealing Veloce trim starting at £17,110 for the two-cylinder 875cc Twinair.
