New GT PHEV concept revealed 15 | 09 | 2016

MITSUBISHI HAS RELEASED details of its new Ground Tourer PHEV concept, which will appear at the Paris Motor Show later this month.

Boasting Mitsubishi’s new signature ‘dynamic shield’ face, the GT PHEV is powered by the brand’s hybrid system, which uses a trio of motors. Mitsubishi claims the car has an electric-only range of around 75 miles, and a combined range of 10 times this.

The concept also debuts next-generation technology, with a more advanced battery pack than is seen in Mitsubishi’s current hybrid system.

According to Mitsubishi, the Ground Tourer name comes from the car’s ability to travel great distances and across different terrains, so naturally, the car is all-wheel drive.

The car also showcases Mitsubishi’s connective technology; route information, such as weather and terrain data, is fed to the car while travelling to aid fuel consumption and road handling.

The Japanese car maker hasn’t released many details of the interior, other than to say it “uses a horizontal dashboard that creates a spacious ambiance”, and has an “instrument panel with a high centre console, the cockpit-like interior wraps around its people, providing a sense of solace and security”. Perhaps a little got lost in the translation!

The company though does label the GT PHEV as a "high-end, next-generation SUV", which rather suggests suggesting the model could reach production as Mitsubishi's next flagship.
