2017 Hyundai SUV to be named Kona 03 | 04 | 2017

HYUNDAI HAS CONFIRMED its new Nissan Juke rival will be badged Kona. The new SUV will go on-sale at Scottish dealerships in the third quarter of the year.

The Korean company believes the Kona will help accelerate its performance and contribute to it becoming the biggest Asian car maker in the market by 2021.

The teaser image released today suggests the new SUV will have a new, more aggressive-looking design than Hyundai's current models.

According to Hyundai, the Kona is a 'true SUV', suggesting it’ll have four-wheel drive and could share technology with the larger Hyundai Santa Fe.

If that’s the case, it will contrast rivals such as the Juke and Kia Soul, which are marketed with a more urban focus.

And why the name Kona? It’s derived from the Kona district on the Big Island of Hawaii and, according to Hyundai, “the island’s energetic image and unique lifestyle matches the All-New Kona’s dynamic character”.

    Yup: 'nuff said.
