According to Suzuki, the new model has “undergone a complete redesign and delivers an all-new level of excitement for sport minded drivers across the world.”

And for the first time, the Swift will gain a turbocharged engine, using a more potent version of the 138bhp 1.4-litre Boosterjet engine used in the Vitara crossover. This will replace the 1.6-litre 136bhp engine which is used in the current car.

It’s also expected, that for the first time the Swift Sport will dip below the 1000kg barrier; the current model times the scales at 1045kg. It’s also likely the 2018 model will retain all the strengths of the current model, including a slick manual gearbox, subtle bodykit, impressive body control and engaging handling.

Spec? The new Sport will mirror the range-topping SZ5 in the current Swift range, meaning a 4.2in LCD display in place of instrument dials. There will also be new driver assist technology, including a forward detection system that uses a monocolour camera and laser sensor that can see in the dark.

The system works by first providing the driver with a visual and audio warning when an impact is likely. It then triggers autonomous emergency braking which can maximise brake pressure to avoid an impact.

Also included within the technology is high beam assist, lane departure warning and an additional radar device enables adaptive cruise control.
