Scenic and Grand Scenic go hybrid 11 | 07 | 2017

RENAULT HAS LAUNCHED hybrid versions of both its Scenic and Grand Scenic models. Available to order now from Renault’s Scottish dealers, prices start at £25,055. First deliveries are scheduled for August. (Related: Roadtest — Renault Grand Scenic Dynamique S Nav cDi 130)

Both models get Renault’s dCi 110 Hybrid Assist power unit, which features a 10kW electric motor located under the bonnet and works in combination with the diesel. Officially, the cars will return 80.7mpg and emit just 94g/km CO2.

The motor is powered by a 48-volt 150Wh battery which is located behind the second row seats for Scenic, or in the spare wheel housing for Grand Scenic.

As the car decelerates, the Motor Generation Unit (MGU) recovers energy which is then used by the vehicle’s electrical system. It’s also stored in the system’s independent battery.

The electric motor also works in association with the internal combustion engine when the driver re-accelerates. The driver can see from  an indicator on the dash when the engine is deploying or recovering power.

Costing £1000 more than the equivalent dCi variants in the Scenic range, the dCi 110 Hybrid Assist models start at £25,055 for the Scenic Dynamique Nav dCi 110 Hybrid Assist. The entry-level Grand Scenic with the Hybrid Assist system is £26,855 for the corresponding Dynamique Nav dCi.
