Ford Ranger gets the black look 04 | 09 | 2017

FORD HAS LIFTED the wraps from its new special edition pick-up truck, the Black Edition Ranger, which will make its public debut at next week’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Only 2500 will be available worldwide. Order books open at Scottish dealerships later this month. (Related: Ford launches £2000 scrappage scheme)

Based on the Ranger in Limited specification, the Black Edition also benefits from — not surprisingly — a blacked-out look thanks to an extensive de-chroming job. In addition to the body being painted in ‘Absolute Black’, the radiator grille also gets a black finish. And — surprise, surprise — the exterior detailing, rollover bars and alloys are also black.

Inside the cabin, the Black Edition gets Ford’s SYNC 3 multimedia and infotainment system, which is fronted by an eight-inch touchscreen display. Other standard equipment includes leather seats and interior upholstery,  dual-zone climate control, power-folding heated door mirrors and satnav.

Available only as a double-cab pick-up, the Black Edition is expected to be powered by an entry-level 158bhp 2.2-litre turbodiesel, or a 197bhp 3.2-litre five-cylinder turbodiesel.

As with the engines, Ford has yet to confirm prices. But it’s fair to expect a small increase on the standard double cab Ranger Limited’s £29,649 (including VAT).
