Order books close for Ford GT 16 | 05 | 2016

FORD HAS CLOSED the order books for its new GT. The American car giant will now sift through he 6506 applicants to identify the lucky 500 buyers who will receive their cars in the first batch.

Over the next two years, Ford will build the first 500 models of the new Ford GT. Another batch will begin production after that, with order books possibly reopening in 12 months’ time.

It’s understood that around 500 people from the UK applied to own the GT.

Though Ford has yet to confirm the pricing of the new Ford GT, it’s expected to start at €500,000 (around £395,000).

And what do you need to do to ensure you’re one of the first lucky 500 owners? Well, according to Ford, buyers will be selected based on responses to a questionnaire, with a preference given to prospective buyers who will be regularly driving the car, rather than collectors who may not take it out on to the road.

If you are one of the fortunate few, Ford will notify you in the next 90 days.

Unlike the previous generation of the Ford GT, of which 4000 models were built, Ford has confirmed it will only be making 250 units each year. And fewer than 20 GTs are expected to reach the UK each year.

First buyers are expected to receive their new Ford GT —  ditches its predecessor's V8 engine in favour of a twin-turbo 3.5-litre Ecoboost V6 — towards the end of this year. Ford claims the car delivers more than 592bhp.
