2018 Cayenne gets Macan influence 25 | 08 | 2017

PORSCHE HAS RELEASED its first official image of the new Cayenne … and it’s clear to see the 2018 model takes its design cues from the sporty Macan. Due to be officially unveiled in production for on August 29, the third-generation Cayenne will go on-sale at Scottish dealerships next year, priced from a round £54,000. While the new model will be a sportier evolution of the previous versions, the latest Cayenne will feature a dramatic tail-light strip which connects both back light clusters from the 911. (Related: New £5m Porsche Centre for Scotland)

Porsche is also remaining tightlipped about the 2018 Cayenne’s powerplants, but it’s logical to expect they will include much of the technological developments first seen in the latest turbocharged engines from the 911.

It’s also worth remembering its sister VW Group SUV, the latest Audi Q7, now uses smaller, more efficient engines across its line-up. Expect the same approach with the new Porsche. (Related: Roadtest — Audi Q7 3.0TDI quattro)

Testing — watch our video of the 2018 Cayenne undergoing testing — of the new Cayenne has been on-going around the globe, putting the new Porsche to extremes of hot and cold.

Temperatures have ranged from minus 45 degrees to plus 50 degrees, and the prototypes and pre-series vehicles have completed a total of around 4.4 million test kilometres.

Hot weather testing has been carried out in the sand dunes of Dubai and on dusty slopes in California’s Death Valley, plus the freezing conditions on Alaska’s ice and snow.

The new Cayenne has also had to endure the stop-start traffic in the hot and humid conditions of Chinese cities, master test tracks in Sweden, Finland and Spain, and was transported to South Africa, Japan and New Zealand to complete extensive on and offroad testing.
