Toyota cuts price of new Prius Plug-in 16 | 02 | 2017

TOYOTA HAS REDUCED the price of its all-new Prius Plug-in by £3200 at its Scottish dealerships. The new 2017 range now starts at £29,195, after the Government plug-in incentive has been taken off. (Related: 2017 Toyota Prius Plug-in spec details)

In addition, the new model delivers more in terms of advanced technology, equipment, safety features and driving rewards than the original model that it’s replacing.

Those benefits now extend to a lower price tag as well, with a reduction in on-the-road prices prior to the car’s official on-sale date.

Toyota has been able bring down the price of both the Business Edition Plus and Excel models by £3200. Factoring in the £2500 available for new car purchases through the UK Government’s plug-in vehicle grant scheme, the new range istarts from just £29,195 – more than £2000 less than the cost of the previous Prius Plug-in.

OTR PRICE / OTR PRICE with Government incentive

    Business Edition Plus £31,695 / £29,195

Business Edition Plus Solar Roof £33,195 / £30,695

    Excel £33,895 / £31,395

The new second-generation of the plug-in hybrid Prius sits alongside the regular hybrid model in the range. Using the same 1.8-litre petrol engine, the Plug-in's powertrain gains a larger 8.8kW/h lithium-ion battery pack and dual motor drive system.

According to Toyota, the new Prius Plug-in is capable of 283mpg …. at least on paper. That’s a whopping 108mpg more frugal than the regular Prius. CO2 emissions are 22g/km; that’s 48g/km less than the standard version and a 17g/km advantage over the VW Golf GTE.

The Prius Plug-in marks a further development of Toyota’s world-leading hybrid technology, benefiting from a new Dual Motor EV Drive system and a higher capacity lithium-ion battery to double its emissions-free electric driving range to more than 30 miles.

The car can also be driven at higher speeds — up to 84mph — using just its electric power and the recharging process is more rapid – as little as two hours for a full charge.

Built on the same new Toyota New Global Architecture platform as the latest, fourth generation Prius, the plug-in hybrid delivers much-improved ride and handling. Equipment specifications are high, with both versions being equipped with Toyota Touch 2 with Go infotainment and navigation, colour head-up display, auto-dimming, auto-retracting door mirrors, heated front seats and world-first gas-injection heat pump air conditioning.
