New AMG Concept on-sale 2019 09 | 03 | 2017
MERCEDES IS SET to launch a full production version of its Mercedes-AMG GT Concept. The four-door, four-seat grand tourer, which will get an 805bhp petrol-electric hybrid powertrain, will enter Scottish showrooms in 2019.
Unveiled in Geneva, the new model has been designed to complement the company’s existing two-seat GT sportscar.
The reveal of the low-slung GT Concept formed part of AMG’s 50th-anniversary celebrations. Drawing various styling cues from AMG’s two-year-old GT sports car, standout similarities include thin, horizontally positioned LED tail lamps, plus the so-called Panamericana grille.
The hybrid unit is a combination of AMG’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine with an electric motor; the combine output is understood to be around 600kW. That equals to 805bhp. Expect it to hit 62mph from standstill in less than 3.0secs.
Developing the technology first seen in the all-conquering Mercedes-AMG Formula 1 car, the new petrol-electric powerplant’s better is charged whilst the car is being driven. This is achieved both through brake energy recuperation and the aid of the combustion engine.
Mercedes also plans to fit the production version of the GT Concept with an exclusive further developed version of AMG’s 4Matic+ four-wheel drive system.
